West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday reacted sharply to the attack on judicial staff in Kaliachak, calling the incident unacceptable and demanding strict action against those responsible.

The development comes at a sensitive time for the state administration, as the Election Commission has recently replaced almost all top officers in Bengal, adding to the political and administrative churn in the state. The reshuffle has put the government under fresh scrutiny, especially on issues linked to law and order and field-level administration.
Banerjee’s response was aimed at sending a clear message that attacks on judicial personnel will not be tolerated. She is understood to have stressed that the safety of court staff and officers involved in the justice system must be protected and that those behind the assault should face punishment.
The Kaliachak incident
has triggered concern among legal circles and administrative observers, who see it as a serious breach of security in a sensitive area. The attack has also sharpened attention on the state’s handling of law and order at a time when the election machinery is already undergoing major changes.
