Bihar Win Sparks Jubilant BJP Celebrations Across Bengal

The National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) emphatic victory in Bihar has sent political shockwaves across eastern India, particularly energising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) units in neighbouring West Bengal. As results poured in showing the NDA sweeping 206 of Bihar’s assembly seats, compared to just 33 for the RJD-Congress-Left Mahagathbandhan, jubilant celebrations erupted in several Bengal districts.
In Howrah, BJP supporters gathered near the iconic Howrah Bridge, painting the streets saffron with celebratory rallies, drumbeats, and sweets distribution. Party workers danced to traditional tunes and raised slogans hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Similar scenes were reported from other parts of South Bengal, including Sandeshkhali, where local residents joined in the festivities. Many there echoed a common sentiment: “Bihar has changed; Bengal’s turn is coming next.”
From Jalpaiguri in North Bengal to Hooghly and Nadia in the south, BJP offices turned into hubs of celebration. In Jalpaiguri, workers organised a “premature Holi”, throwing colours and rejoicing over the Bihar results. Farakka in Murshidabad witnessed an afternoon of excitement as party supporters congregated near the NTPC intersection, playing drums and bathing in saffron hues.
At Ranaghat in Nadia district, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar personally joined the celebrations, dancing alongside local party workers as sweets were distributed to passersby. Hooghly’s Sheoraphuli and Singur also saw enthusiastic gatherings, where workers handed out laddus under banners reading “Bihar can do it, Bengal can do it too.”
The political reverberations were immediate. Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, lauded the Bihar outcome, calling it a sign of things to come. “Bihar’s victory is ours. Now it’s Bengal’s turn,” he declared, vowing to end what he termed as “misrule, women’s oppression, and corruption” in the state. Adhikari, invoking the spirit of Nandigram’s 2021 contest, added that the entire Bengal electorate would follow that example in 2026. For the BJP’s Bengal cadre, Friday’s scenes were more than celebration—they were, symbolically, a rehearsal for the political battles ahead.
