Partha Chatterjee Seeks to Attend Assembly Winter Session

Kolkata: Former Education Minister and Behala West MLA Partha Chatterjee has written to Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, expressing his desire to attend the upcoming winter session. Recently released on bail, Chatterjee conveyed his wish to resume legislative duties through the formal letter.
However, Assembly sources indicated uncertainty over his participation as the Presidency Jail authorities have yet to send an official communication confirming his release. Without this procedural clearance, Chatterjee’s attendance remains in question.
After returning home from jail, Chatterjee reportedly told close associates he wants to return to work and take part in the Assembly session. The question now revolves around seating arrangements. Though elected on a Trinamool Congress ticket, he remains suspended from the party for six years, which bars him from sitting with the ruling MLAs.
In the Assembly chamber, the ruling party occupies seats to the right of the Speaker, BJP legislators sit to the left, and ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui sits between both sides. Speculation is rife that if Chatterjee’s presence is approved, he may be allotted a seat near Siddiqui’s position, effectively placing him outside both major blocs.
